About Somewhere

Somewhere started with a random seed and was the first world created when I first bought Minecraft. I began doing some cool things, at least in my mind, and decided to carry it over to the server. How cool is it to have a legacy map with roots in Singleplayer that can now be played with by more people?

Somewhere is pretty loose on the rules and design ideas, but we’re going for a fantasy and sci-fi theme, with the shallow lore being that there is an ancient Somewhere and a new, modern one. This is scene at the current hub area of Novaren Fortress, built into naturally formed mountains. Ancient Novaren is made up of stone, while the new inhabitants have refurbished the place and built some new structures with iron. Old technology like wooden ships and airships exist, but so will rockets, airplanes, teleportation grids, and big modern boats (eventually, when they get around to being built). Big transport vehicles can be given teleportation pads to emulate using them to travel.

If you found an interesting place or have built something really special, you may get a mapmarker created for it on the dynamic map, or even a teleportation transport leading straight to it or nearby it! While you can do a lot in Somewhere, I’d rather not see giant pink wool towers or pop icon monuments, no matter how well made they might be. You can have a lot of fun with the fantasy/sci-fi/old/new ideas, but let’s try to keep them grounded in a functional reality.

I’m always open to server and plug-in suggestions, or just general discussion and perhaps even some creation of lore. That’s what this forum is for. And it goes without saying you shouldn’t be an ass hat and grief. Go have that sort of fun somewhere else. (Admittedly I do watch some Minecraft griefing videos myself)

Server Info

At the moment, Somewhere is hosted on Klownicle’s computer, which is almost always on anyway. The advantage of running it at home is that we will always be aware of any problems and can fix it ourselves quickly. The disadvantage is that it may go down at any moment and not necessarily come back up for awhile. We’ll try to broadcast if there’s time for a forewarning that the server is going down for a bit.

See you on the server!
